Transport for the Lake District is calling on a wide range of people, organisations & voices to help shape ideas and be part of a groundswell for constructive, deliverable change.
We won’t all agree on everything, but the point is to work out what is most important and how it can be delivered. We're asking that question seriously, and we'd like your help answering it .
Better transport in the Lake District should work for the people who live here, the people who visit, and the businesses caught between the two. Simple to navigate, dependable enough to plan around, and available to anyone, whether or not they drive.
Community is at the heart of our transport design.
Getting to work, school or a hospital appointment shouldn't depend on owning a car, and your town/village shouldn't seize up every bank holiday weekend. Public transport that reliably runs when you need it frees up roads and parking spaces for the people who actually live here.
We want people here, not cars.
The Lake District is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and you shouldn’t need a car to see it. We want an easy car-free experience that works for anyone, including families, older visitors and anyone arriving with bikes, buggies or a boot’s worth of kit, at a price that competes with driving.
Simplicity, reliability & consistency. We must endeavour to get this right.
Good transport is good business.
Every business here depends on people being able to move: staff arriving, customers turning up, deliveries getting through. When the network works, all of that gets easier and more predictable, whatever you trade in.
Reliable rural transport widens the pool of people you can hire from and the number of people who can reach your door.
An independent initiative, focused on improving future access and transport for the Lake District. Our role is to:
Providing funding accountability and low-carbon destination transport expertise.
Bringing community-led insight across Cumbria’s places and people.
Sharing practical learning from existing integrated transport.
Offering political strategy advice to support effective engagement.
